  Who we are

DyS is a Chilean company whose stock is traded in the national and international Stock Exchanges. It is made up of a group of companies whose core business is food retail through different supermarket and hypermarket formats aimed at satisfying our customers' diverse needs. It covers the whole country, from Arica to Punta Arenas.

Our company has implemented a multi-format strategy, thus seeking to serve the different customer segments throughout the country.

Hiper Lider belongs to DyS and is a money-saving hypermarket that responds to the slogan “all in one place”.  It was launched in 1995 and has become the fulcrum of the Company, with 63 stores to date throughout the country. It is well known for offering a very varied mix because it has non-edible goods in the home, appliance, electronics, clothing, hardware and toys areas, besides the traditional food lines. The sales rooms in this format are on average 7,000 square meters.

Líder Express is a format with the same characteristics as a traditional supermarket but whose main aim is to encourage “easy shopping” with quick checkouts and a wide variety of food stuffs. Its business is focused on the sale of food, with the emphasis on perishables such as fruit, vegetables, fresh meat and ready-to-eat meals. There are 50 Líder Express throughout Chile, whose sales rooms are smaller than the Hypermarkets'.

In January 2007, the Company launched Ekono, a new discount format which today has 43 stores of this type in Santiago.  It is oriented basically toward food and the stores themselves are all found in the more densely populated areas, serving the needs of customers seeking convenience stores with quick checkouts and lower prices.

The Company detected an opportunity through the development of a supermarket format that would meet the household needs of lower income families and it was for this reason that in October 2007, DyS launched the new format of SuperBodega aCuenta, a low-priced concept 90% focused on selling food stuffs with a simple although austere appearance but with a large presence of own brands.  There are currently 5 stores of this type and 8 more are under construction.

This division of retail formats has become the main business and the cornerstone of the Company’s growth, upon which our strategy and future development are focused. Different business units have sprouted, which are closely related to this area, adding value to our business. We own a financial services subsidiary that provides credit for consumers using our LIDER-PRESTO card, the largest non-banking card system with coverage all over the country with already 30,000 stores affiliated to it.

There is also Saitec Real Estate which develops and administers the stores where our supermarkets, hypermarkets and commercial centers are located, so that DyS is able to corner prime locations.

DyS’s share in the retail market nationwide is close to 9% according to figures issued by the Banco Central, and it shares this category with department stores, shops, pharmacies, home improvement outlets and others.

During 2007 sales in the supermarket industry in Chile amounted to an estimated US$ 9,620 million which represents almost 26% of all retail industry sales. In Chile this industry is very competitive and consists of hypermarkets, supermarkets, self-service stores and suburban convenience stores.

During 2007 DyS held a 32.6% market share in the supermarket industry, followed by Cencosud with a 29.4% share. This company is our main Chilean competitor and owner of Jumbo and Santa Isabel. Falabella also entered the hypermarket business under the name of Tottus, becoming our direct competitor, just like the company Saieh, which bought up the chain of Unimarc supermarkets with the recent creation of brands such as Deca and Bryc.
